Departmental E-Mail Service

Instructional Computing offers hosted e-mail service for campus departments that have in-house technical staff but who prefer not to run the nuts-and-bolts themselves.

IC's Electronic Communications Group -- the providers of the U-Mail service -- are the e-mail experts at UCSB. Our core competency is running large-scale high-performance e-mail services. Because of the economies of scale we gain by running student e-mail, IC can leverage our infrastructure and expertise to provide top-tier departmental e-mail services at a cost that can't be matched by running e-mail in-house.

We allow departmental IT staff to focus on department-specific priorities, while leaving the onerous job of maintaining 24x7x365 e-mail service to us. Over a dozen of campus domains have outsourced their e-mail service to us, including the Bren School, Materials Research Laboratory, Graduate Division, Office of Research, and the Chancellor's Office -- just to name a few.
